    Who was Doris?

I've got a few postcards in the collection, some came from one seller who inherited the cardboard box of family stuff from a deceased aunt but knows nothing of the pictures beyond they could be either/or Rowell and Brown family from Coalville. One picture "Best of Love, Doris), appears to be 1917 though the other I can only pin down to 1902-1923 based on the photographer's name.

I can't find a marriage for a Doris Rowell/Brown or a marriage of a Doris to a Rowell/Brown in the Ashby de la Zouch district, or a likely one in Leicestershire for that matter. I'd just love to work out who she is as I'm sure most of the cards I have connect to her and her family.

There is another card with the J Goulson, Coalville 17 mark. I wondered if it was a family sitting at the studio as some others have the number 154 so it doesn't appear to be a date.

I've just found this which would tie in with the details on the reverse of the baby photo BUT the photographer died in 1923, his daughter continued the business but she was E M Goulson

A bit out on the dates you were thinking of, Just wondering if Doris's photo was sent to someone who was in WW1. Might not have been her boyfriend but her brother or father,

This Doris Selina Rowell appears from the 1939 register, GRO and and 1911 Ancestry to be born 13th Jan 1904 as the daughter of Charles Rowell and Harriet Edwards, who married March 1890 in Ashby de la Zouch.

That's the thing about the 1917 on the pic, assuming it's correct there is a Doris Rowell. The baby pic is undated but John Goulson the photographer was definitely gone by 1923.

Two possibles for Doris, one born 1900 and Doris S, born 1904. Doris S married the Matchett chap in 1924 which throws that 1917 date out the window, she is older than 13 in that pic.

Are there any Doris Rowell entries in the 1911?

I see Chrissie was ahead of me there.

It seems likely that the studio continued beyond 1923 as John Goulson, Photographer, 42 Belvoir Road appears in the 1925 Kelly's Directory
