Berline Birth, 1941; Death 1976, Australia

Looking for info about the birth of Martin Hans Ziebarth, born Berlin, Germany, 23 Feb 1941. Source of this info is his US naturalization papers. He states on his Social Security application that his parents are Hans Ziebarth and Jeane Sylvester. While possible she is his mother, it's highly unlikely that she is his biological mother.

And, altho the SSDI indicates his DOD is 1975, there is a death in Heal, Victoria, Australia in 1976 that is probably his. Index on Ancestry says father's name was Hans, mother's name was "Lieselotte" - the same name that appears (on the next page) immigrating with Father Hans in 1946, so that jives.

Can more info from the DC be obtained? Is it possible to find out if he was married? Children?

Finally - there's very little information online about father Hans. He was a German engineer who arrived in the US in 1946. There is a remark on the arrival record about his group being escorted by a US military officer to a US military base. There's a couple of scientific papers with his name as a co-author (like, turbine engines). Anyone have a good reference about the German scientists that came to the US post WWII?

and if a mod could take the 'e' out of Berlin in the title, it would be much appreciate ;)

Yes, I would like a look up! Is there a thread for that in the Offer section?

I saw that after I had started this thread.

So, I've wondered if his mother and father separated - perhaps she went to Australia? It would click with him stating his stepmother's name on his SS5, but having her correct name on his DC.

        Thanks, Elaine!

Have I got it right that his father is in Ohio as I was wondering about the notice being in the Californian paper?

You can download the death certificate from the vic bmd website for a fee.

It should tell you birthplace, age, occupation, marriage details and children plus their ages, parents names and burial details. As you know, as well as the informant was aware.

Yes, it appears from various records that father Hans was initially working at Wright-Patterson base in Dayton, OH, then for an engineering firm in California much later. Then they moved back to Ohio, probably when he retired.

But Martin was an adult by 1975, had his own estate to go thru probate. Interesting that it was in California.

                  Thanks, KJ -
he was unmarried, in Australia for 14mo. No informant listed, but an Inquiry was held at Melbourne some 8 mo after his death. I think I found the folder for that inquest, but it's a confusing website.
How sad. To the best of my knowledge/research, he was an only child.

If anyone can help with the obit, I am interested.

As far as i know inquest's aren't online yet. There may be a newspaper article, but not sure "trove" is that recent.

I live near the public records office, so i can order the inquest papers and film them for you, if you like.

Not too sure how to go about accessing obits from the ryerson index.
