    Consent of Parents?

I've just found a marriage on Free Reg between Eliza Gillard and Thomas Weech who were both born about 1810, the marriage didn't take place until 1837 when they were both about 27/28, yet in the notes it states 'Consent of Parents' their only child was born at the end of 1838 so it wasn't a shotgun wedding unless there was an earlier birth, so why the Parental Consent when they were both so much over age? Anyone any ideas?

I assume you have seen the actual marriage cert then, as this Bonds and Allegations doesn't mention the parents consent? -

This is the parish marriage cert.
It does say by consent of the parents. No idea why though.

Just had another look at the page of 6 marriages and 4 say with consent of the parents. Perhaps a nice friendly vicar who wanted to please everyone!!

I wondered that Lin - if in doubt he put it in? Perhaps they looked young for their ages

How do you know they were both born about 1810 unless you have the exact date of birth as most people at this time are baptisms with some births given but not always?

I have a marriage 1823 which has stated marriage took place with consent of parent. The wife was 28 and the groom 18. There was an illegitimate child involved. However I only knew their ages d from the Births and baptismal dates found in different parishes.

I'm not on Ancestry so haven't got access to any of their records (I can't even open the links that you gave me, I just get asked to join). Thomas was Christened in 1808 which ties in with Census Returns and the age on the death Index, I don't have a birth record for Eliza but all the Census Returns and the age on death index are consistent with a birth date of about 1810.

              Thanks for your help

Lin, Thank you very much for that, yes thanks, I did find the later marriage and the death of Eliza in 1872.
