  • Hunt for Scottish Prison Record

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know if there's a way to find a Scotland Prison Record?

I've found an 1891 Census with a distant Aunt in North Prison at Glasgow Cathedral Square but I've yet to find a reason why. I've searched Ancestry & FMP, tried the National Archives as well but nothing is coming up.

    Thanks.

I am the girl from that town & I'm darn proud of it.

Whoopsies. It is Sophia McGovern born in 1869 in Johnstone, Renfrewshire Scotland. The census just noted Inmate and that her Occupation is Millworker Thread.

The National Archives Prison index on Ancestry and FMP is for the borders prisons. It looks like other info on prison records is with the National Archives of Scotland
There maybe a newspaper report but nothing showing on FMP

              this might be helpful
Police forces, in the modern sense, came into existence in Scotland from 1800 onwards in burghs and counties...
