  • Military record on FMP

There is a military record for John James Ariss, b 1871 on FMP. He was married in Oct 1899, had a daughter in 1900, but according to his mother was dead by 1911. Can someone have a look and see if there are any details regarding his death on the record as I cannot find anything anywhere else.

    Thanks.
    Linda

Thanks so much Vera, I had a suspicion he might have been in the Boer War, as one of his daughter's names was Pretoria.

So sad. Not seeing any site that has burial details although Ancestry have a record of service with details from one of their now pay to view sites.

Thanks Elaine - interesting to read about the movements of his unit - they seemed to have been stationed in Pretoria for a couple of years, which would be why his daughter was so named. Sadly it also ended up being where her father died.
