    Workhouse help please.

I have a Robert Fake born 1800 in Clapham. He is in Wandsworth and Clapham workhouse in 1871 and 1881 which is a long time. Is there any way that I can find him going in and maybe coming out. He did die in 1883 in Wandsworth so maybe he died in there.
    Thank you
    Ann

The local archives may be able to help. I found some of mine entering and leaving the Nottingham workhouse at Nottingham archives and there was quite a lot of info on each sheet. He could have been using the workhouse as a hospital if he was ill or even mentally ill.

extremely naughty I sent for my great grandfathers workhouse records a few years ago now, cost quite a bit and they could not find his records for some of the time in there, they were apologetic but I did not get a refund.

He was really bad. When I do a friends tree I always say Do they mind what I find. You never know do you...........
Thank you everyone for your help. I did find a criminal record page but it was not the one on here. I could not read it so I could not say for sure it was this man. This link has been really helpful. I have just tried the workhouse link but it keeps saying they cannot find my man. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I will keep trying.
                        Once again thank you all

Oh no I was not upset at all. You should go into this with the thought that you could find really dark things. I have found some bad things and some funny things like the man who died twice. He was reported drowned at sea from ships he was working. He actually was running away from his families and didnt die either time.

I quite enjoy finding naughty stuff makes for more interesting trees, but I do have a few really sad cases , which I would rather not have found out.
                              Good luck
