There's a baptism for a daughter of William and Catherine but I can't see them again.

Don't know if it helps at all

It could well be her..nothing else comes up, but saying that I still can't find a marriage for Joseph Pearcy & Catherine Danton. Maybe they never married!!!
There are quite a few Danton's on the 1841 Census just a pity I don't know for sure who her parents were.

I've purchased hundreds of certificates over the years and only got a handful wrong, so I thought is was worth the risk!

BINGO! Yes that is Joseph Pearcy after all. Same father and mother as his siblings!

Mitcham was a sub-district of Croydon, not a district of its own. You could contact Croydon registrars and ask them to check the sub-district for you before issuing the certificate.

I had dismissed that one because I was looking for a Birth Registered in Mitcham. Had a look at Croydon Reg Districts see below.

    CROYDON REGISTRATION DISTRICT
    • Registration County : Surrey (1837-1965), Greater London (from 1965).
    • Created : 1.7.1837.
    • Sub-districts : Coulsdon, Croydon, Croydon Central, Croydon North, Croydon South, Mayday, Mitcham, North Croydon, Penge, South Croydon, West Croydon
    GRO volumes : IV (1837-51), 2a (1852-1946), 5G (1946-65), 5A (1965-74), 11 (1974-92).

Am I reading this correctly that Volume no. 4 (IV) includes Mitcham for an 1841 Birth?

Catherine Pearcy, age 36, Housekeeper. No
    John Pearcy, age 7, Yes
    Jane Pearcy age 4, Yes
    Charles Pearcy, age 1, Yes

Charles Pearcy’s birth certificate shows he was born on 12 Sep 1839, at Church Lane, Mitcham and that his mother Catherine’s maiden name was Danton.

1851 Census: Surname Transcribed as PEACY
Joseph Pearcy, age 45, Brick Labourer, born c.1806, Mitcham.
Catherine Pearcy, Wife, age 49, born c.1802, Margate Kent.
Charles Pearcy, son, age 11, 1840, Church Lane, Mitcham
Harriet Pearcy, dau, age 7, born c.1844, Mitcham (born 20 Sep 1843 Birth Cert)
Jane Pearcy, dau, age13, born c.1838, Mitcham
Joseph Pearcy, son, age 9, born c.1842, Mitcham

1861 Census: The family were now living in Church Place in Mitcham, Surrey.
    Surname Transcribed as Peacey
Joseph Pearcy, age 54, Brick Labourer, born c.1807, Mitcham.
Catherine Pearcy, Wife, age 57, born c.1804, Margate Kent.

Joseph Pearcy, Age: 72, Head, born Mitcham, Surrey. Labourer
Catherine Pearcy, Age 73, Wife, born, Margate, Kent. Seamstress.

I have both Joseph and Catherine's Death Certificates and Joseph's surname is spelt Piercy! Catherine died 1888 and Joseph died 1889

My hubby is a direct descendant of Joseph Pearcy Jnr who married Eliza Rollins in 1865 in Battersea.

My problem is....I can't find a likely birth registration for him and I can't find a marriage for his parents Joseph Pearcy & Catherine Danton. No trace of a marriage in London so I'm guessing they married in Kent.

    So..anyone up for a challenge????
Working...
