It is Monmouthshire Val
1851 age 8 b St Arvans
1861 age 17 b Penterry (which is very near St Arvans)
So he would have been born about 1843/4
If this is the right Henry then it looks like another case of the age being wrong on the marriage cert. He was 29 in Sept 1876 according to the cert which would mean he was born about 1847
I've found these records for Penterry. If you look at Archives and then public records there are baptisms, marriages and burials
Luke Lane married Mary Ann Lansdown on 28th Dec 1847 which would mean that Henry was born before the marriage. I've found baptisms on there for several of the children but not for Henry. I also looked under Lansdown
There is a Henry Lane aged 34 in the 1880 US census in Pennsylvania who is a wire drawer, although it says born England. I don't have access to US records so can anyone else see if there are any other records for that Henry to rule him out?Jackie

My goodness... you have been busy.
Thank you so much, that's looking very promising.
Henry seemed very consistent about stating his occupation as a wire drawer, so that would seem a good possible sighting.
I don't have access to outgoing passengers from UK for that period, so would be very grateful if someone could find him please on a passenger list.
