    Double murder & Suicide 1940-1950's

    Sorry 1970's

I have recently learned that one of my GG Uncles murdered his brother and wife after discovering they were having an affair, he then shot himself.

Can anyone suggest where to look for information. My nan remembers her brother going to work one morning and his colleagues joked about him having the same surname as this man, and when he read the article it was his uncle.

This would have taken place in Cheshire or even North Wales

    Thanks

Can you find death registrations to help confirm dates/places - then apply to local libraries for copies of newspaper reports.

I find that Cheshire and sometimes North Wales are covered by the Liverpool Papers. Have you tried the Gale site?

Sorry forget that didnt read properly

There is nothing in the Times Digital Archives that I can see. I would think the local library is your best bet (or rather the library local to where the incident happened!)

Very brief report in The Times Online Thursday Oct 12, 1967. States that three bodies were found in living room of cottage in Dyserth, Flintshire, and names them as Geoffrey Christopher, 46, his wife Eleanor Mary, 30 and his brother Philip about 30.

Thanks Nell, I had looked but never found anything, knowing my luck I was doing the same as Elaine 1860's

When you do this for a hobby you forget that not all dates start with 18??

I did the same with a quote for my car insurance I put 1878 instead of 1978 and then wondered why they said I was too old to quote for:D

Oops - mine was a typo error - I did the right dates - but did the search using Helen Christopher!

Didn't know they would get the name wrong in the report! :D:D

Enter the exact date Oct 12, 1967 and put Dyserth in the search box - and it comes up.

Put "Geoffrey Chirstopher" in inverted commas in search box its the only item for 1967. If you can't find it, send me a pm with your private e-mail and I'll see if I can send you a copy.

I had something similar in 1973. Husband shot wife and three kids. Zoe looked in the Mirror Archives and found something on them.
I also found a large article in the newspaper archives that was local to the event. Try the library or county archives. I just emailed them. Yes, there was a charge but only a small amount.

OH has some ancestors who lived in Dyserth and his grandfather is buried there. I've just looked on the Wiki and the Dyserth church photo is one of mine (it was taken a couple of years ago)

This site might be useful - there is a forum on there although I've not used it

If you can send me a PM during the day tomorrow to give me a nudge I'll check the Mirror for you.

It will also remind me to send Joan her pages as I keep forgetting until I get home
