  • Richard and Albert Alvey in Canada

    Hi Everyone

I have just found a distant rellies WWI Army records. George Alvey 1889 Nottingham

It says his next of kin are Richard Alvey and Albert Edward Alvey address Raymore, PO Sask Canada. I think this was filled in when he joined up.

He was killed in 1917 and there was another filled in still giving his next of kin as Richard and Albert in Canada also his sister Annie Hopewell. This doc is date stamped 1919.

I have looked on Ancestry.com and there is something on Canadian WW1 Soldiers mentioning Albert with relative Richard but it is locked to me.

    Richard Henry Born 1881 Nottingham

    Albert Edward Born 1879 Nottingham

Does anyone have access to it please.

Also any ideas about passenger lists I have looked on Find my past and Ancestry.

    Thanks Lin

If you put "Canada" in your thread title, someone with access to records may see it.

Is he in the British Army or the Canadian Expeditionary Force?

If he is in the CEF then you can obtain these through Canada without needing to go through Ancestry. I had 3 who joined CEF and I obtained all three through Canada, though some time ago now. It sounds to me as though having next of kin in Canada, he possibly joined the army in Canada and therefore joined the CEF?

Try the website below to see if you can get any help.

Researching A Member of the Canadian Expeditionary Force

If he is British Army then it will have to be either TNA or Ancestry.

Found an Albert Alvey at this site with his attestation papers, any use?

Item Display - Soldiers of the First World War - CEF - ArchiviaNet - Library and Archives Canada

At the bottom click on front of form and back of form for the Attestation Papers

I had a very helpful contact with the Saskatchewan public records people a year or so ago. Well worth a try. There are two offices, each holding different records.

Thank you everyone for your help. I will look at the web sites now.

Thanks Light for the attestation papers I have managed to enlarge them and are very clear.

It says he was in the 3rd Notts and Derby Reg so might find something else about him.

                Thanks again Lin

                  Janet

I have just looked at the papers and they are definitely him so thanks a lot.

Uncle John have made a note of the site and will look at it later.

Seems he didn't join up until 1918.

                  Thanks Lin

Lin have you got a Denis Alvey born 2 Sep 1894 Notts in your tree? He lived at 52 Mayfield Rd Nottingham.

I think this is him with mother Harriet on the 1901c..RG13; Piece: 3172; Folio: 106; Page: 39

His papers are on Ancestry as well. Just yell if you want them

I wonder if you have an interest in the following Archibald Alvey found at:

Item Display - Immigration Records (1925-1935) - ArchiviaNet - Library and Archives Canada

It may or may not be a relative?

Following on from Northern Light's Dennis Alvey, a Dennis Alvey is also in the site below as a soldier in the CEF:

Item Display - Soldiers of the First World War - CEF - ArchiviaNet - Library and Archives Canada

                        Thanks Light and Janet

Archibald definitely isn't mine, I'm not sure on Dennis as his father was Samuel, and I have a Samuel born Newark but haven't traced him forward yet.

These people are only little twigs but when I get stuck I go sideways a bit and still enjoy it.

I have also found 2 things on the web site you gave my Janet. One for a Richard H Alvey, it was Naval about a collision and the other about Albert Alvey having some land. I will see if I can find anything else.

                        Thanks to you both.

That is brilliant. Thank you so much.

I have Richard marrying Emma Wade but it is only a guess as it is 1909. I will now try and find out how they got there.

                            Thanks Lin

                                Hi Wendy

I keep looking at the tree on ancestry but Richards 2x G Grandfather was the brother of my 5x G Grandfather so seems a bit remote but now I have more info I think I will get in touch. She also has Emma Wade as Richards wife. Going back another generation we are related so worth a try.

Thanks for the info on the passenger list.

I would just like to add a happy ending to this thread.

Some one from Canada has PM'd me to say they are related to Richard and Albert Alvey and we have exchanged all our info so it is really worth putting a thread like this up.

Thanks you everyone from one happy person
