  • Vivian Allport Parkinson in India

I am finding this soooo FRUSTRATING. How difficult can it be to locate a man called Vivian!

As far as I know Vivian Allport Parkinson (born 1898 in Durham) signed up in the Durham Light Infantry but then transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers before transferring to the 'Indian Uattached List'. I understand that he probably was in India with the Indian Defence Force before and during WW1, as his rank encompassed a sort of military/civil service role and for whatever reason (yet to find out) wasnt fit for active service, which was just as well as the DLI took a proper battering in France. He was in Madras, his role during this time, a staff Sergant Instructor, is for further research, so if anyone can point me in a direction I would be very grateful.

I have managed to find Vivian's marriage details on the FIBIS website where he married Alicia Estelle Harvey in 1921, a lady born in India, well actually so was her father....... where would i get a marriage certificate from?

    And here comes the questions.......

Where would I find details of any children born and, as important, although I have searched I cannot find details in India or in England of his or Alicia's death. Any clues how I can locate this detail.

    Thank you for your time
    xx

The India Office might have the marriage record and baptisms of any children. If so, they may be listed on the familysearch website, although the site is down at the moment, so I can't check

The India Office might also have a military record for him.

A useless piece of information: Vivian was a male name long before it became feminised! (Knights of the Round Table and all that).

It is reasonably popular still, here in Cornwall.

Yes, I guess it was.......It was tricky to think of a male going through WW1 with a 'girls' name!!!!
I keep humming 'boy named Sue' when I do the research, which, by the way isnt going very well, I feel the urge to scream at the moment!!!!!!

Cant find a death on Familysearch for him.
I think you have to know the site you are searching and to do that practice and lots of use brings the experience.
