Gosh everyone, you are brilliant - I have been out at a meeting all evening and find you have been so busy! The family bible states William travelled from Liverpool, on the SS City of Baltimore to the US on 25 July 1871 - the entry for George John is far less clear, he had set sail for America years earlier on 4 July 1864, but the ship is not clear. The dates of birth for the whole family are recorded in this bible, but no further records on the two in America.

am just narked that I couldn't spot anything likely on the blimmin census for him/them.. if you can take a photo of that family bible page with the ships details on Rachel then I will gladly have a look to see if I can decipher it for you. might be an idea as well that if William was a farmer, to see which states would primarily be classed as farming states, Idaho springs to mind as thats where they grow alot of potatoes (or did!)Julie
