Pat, you may have seen this site but I am sure it gives links to a lot more. Clicking on Canal heritage brings up some really good stuff.

There are a number of people who specialise in tracing boat people's family history. From bits seen on "Waterworld", the boat museum at Gloucester and possibly the waterways museum at Stoke Bruerne could be a starting point. British Waterways inherited a lot of carrying company records of who was running which boats pre-nationalisation.

Thank you - I will be busy with these, they are not close rellies, but i would like to know what they did while living on canal, as they were there for most of there lives, and then there children went on to live on the canal.

When were your boat people around Pat? I have a BBC record of archive recordings of canal people, what names do you have?

I'd be interested to know the names as well Pat. I've a lot of boat-builders in Coventry at Hawkesbury Junction .....

Many of them were born or descended from boat people themselves.

The family i am looking at are the Hirons, and a lot of them originated from Stratford and there abouts.
