lol If they are going to include Holdenhurst village, OH's ancestors were there in the 17thC, but his family only arrived in Bournemouth in about 1940!!

I've lived here since I was 4 (60 years) and my grandparents were in Christchurch before WW2. Didn't see this article so thanks for the link, Tinkerbe

ohhhhh, this looks interesting, I don't live in Bournmouth, never did, butttt my grandmother was a 1st cousin of her husband to a Trokes, I have only ever got back to 1871 with my Trokes as, grandmother married a Walker, and with a name like THAT it has taken all my time to trace THAT family....It might be worth doing a little more research on the Trokes, I do know that I have loads of family, with unually surnames who I have never meet, but still live there and have been there since the early 1800's so it might be worth getting in touch with the guy who is doing the research, he might be able to tell me something lol....many thanks for this thread...I think it is going to be very useful.....Lilly...;)

So who's at the new portman building? I worked in bournemouth for two years opposite the construction work.

Re the original post, I'll ask around for old families - my mum works for a few old ladies in the area.

When I first lived and worked in Bournemouth the joke was that the pavements were rolled up at 9pm - and Bath Hill was so named because of the number of Bath Chairs due to the extreme amount of old people living there. Then they opened up the Colleges for foreign students and things started to take off - including some night clubs! I lived three doors away from the 81 Club and just about lived there every night. Sadly I don't fit the qualifications but I shall watch for the final article with interest
There is no absolute truth - and no final answer.

The Portman building is now the Nationwide area offices since the merger last year.

When I was a child we lived on the cliff top and could just stroll down to the beach. We now tend to go to the beaches away from the town centre as they get so crowded and it's a devil to park :(

Old Lady 1 - Aged 85, born in Bournemouth but family from Wales and Manchester and she's mad
Old Lady 2 - Aged 82, born in Staffordshire, family from Staffordshire, moved to Bmouth in 1970's
Old Lady 3 - Not sure of age but she's French
Old Lady 4 - Aged 93, born in Bournemouth, family from Bournemouth, but she's dead - oops! I forgot she died

That's the thing with Bournemouth, the oldies are so inactive you don't notice when they die.
