Is there a way to find who lived in a house when it was built. I was born at home in 1946 in what I think was a victorian build. Nan, aunts , uncles and cousins all lived there. It was big with a basement .2 floors and attic.
I dont know if it is possible to go back to find who used to live there and how. I do not have any names so the census is out.

    Thank you
    Ann

You can search for an address on the census records just put the address in the keyword box on Ancestry, Ann.
find my past have an address search on all censuses (1841 - 1939 incl 1921). - https://www.findmypast.co.uk/search-address

Takes a bit of work because some censuses didn't have proper addresses. You often can do it by working along the street from a known building on each census. You'll need to read the 'cover' page which describes the route the enumerator took on each census. You might find electoral rolls useful too but not all areas are covered on line.
