  • Cause of death - what am I missing?

With the extension of GRO digital images, I finally purchased the death cert for my Great Grandmother. She died in 1910 at the age of 55 (that is what was stated on the death cert, in reality she was 58) and cause of death was Syncope. As far as I can see, that just means fainting, and while it can be a precursor to other conditions, I cannot see it as a cause of death by itself. Can anyone shed more light ?

    Thanks
    Linda

Syncope wouldn't be allowed on its own as a cause of death today, but at that time I would guess it was just an unexplained collapse of some sort ....possibly heart related, but who knows.

Thanks Antony, presumably what used to be called Visitation of god. By todays standards she was reasonably young but probably not so in those days.
