Thanks anyway. I would have thought it would make the papers even in the immediate post war period. Maybe violent death had become commonplace.

I searched 'Colthup Whittle' and there was limited information here......

Air Forces WW2 Casualty : Flight Sergeant J F C WHITTLE (1394221), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve [RAFCommands]

It states that he fell between the train and the platform.

The question is actually similar to what happened to an Ancestor I had been researching. Death Certificate showed he had died, 41yrs of age and had body injuries being caused by being run over by a train outside St Albans in Herts. This was November 1933, and like you, I could not find any reference to the story in the BNA.

I then contacted the Hertfordshire Archives, found out that they held microfiche copies of local newspapers for the period and so made an appointment to view the microfiche. I was fortunate in that I found reports from the two days of the Inquest and was able to get copies.

So perhaps it did make the papers but that local paper has not yet been digitised?

Yes, finding that was actually my starting point.
