  • Military medal search

I’m trying to find the citation or mentioned in despatches for David Owen Jones , born 1891 in St Asaph Wales . He served in the royal welch fusiliers with service number 37915, then in Western cavalry dept service number 28041, then he seems to be in a training facility as company sergeant major service number 2264 . The family know he was awarded the Military Medal but don’t know for what reason . I’ve been trying all day to track this down but so far I’ve failed . I found it so easy to find the citation for my 2nd cousins military medal in ww2 some years ago which is why I volunteered to look for David Owen Jones’ record . His daughter will be 100 years old later this year so it would be great if I could find it for her . Just wondered if anyone could give me a bit of guidance .

    thanks for reading this

I may have found a newspaper report - was he the second son of Mr & Mrs G Jones of of Alltygraig, Aberaryron?

Welsh Gazette, Aberystwyth Chronicle and West Wales Advertiser 01 May 1919 has a report of a presentation to him at the school at Aberayron as he received notification the previous September but was not able to have it at a military parade as he had been demobbed. I can send a copy if you think this is him, pm me an email address.

He was in charge of a Lewis gun on the Somme and prevented the annihilation of a platoon.

Oh Thank you Jill . I’m not sure of his parents’ names but it does sound like it would be him as it’s the right area of Wales . Would you be able to send it to me as a pm ? That would be great .

      thank you so much

Just realised about the red one on my inbox that I needed to mark it as read ! I blame it on my old age !

I've copied and pasted the email address you sent me and used my gmail instead of my usual email address, hope that works.

Oh thank you so much Jill . Yes it’s arrived . I’m going to get in touch with the family again to see if this is their David Owen Jones . His almost 100 year old daughter is very much on the ball so she will know if we’ve found the right man .
im so grateful for your help
                  all the best Liz x

I'm so glad it arrived, maybe the file size was too big for my other email address.
