  • Irish Death Records

Can anyone recommend the best site to use for Irish deaths? I’m using ancestry and getting nowhere.
I’m searching for the death record of my great grandad, John Dempsey, born in Dublin in 1875.
He married Elizabeth Kirby in 1897 (I have the record), and in 1901 they are living at George’s Quay, Dublin.
By 1911, Elizabeth is a widow with three children and says she was married for 12 years. This would put John’s death at 1909.
My grandad was born in 1903, so he was very young when his dad died.
Hopefully, I can find the death registration and then order the certificate.
    TIA

This Irish Government supported, official web site, is dedicated to helping you in your search for records of family history for past generations.

You just need to pop a name on the site when you search, per irish law for searching registers.

The site is free, and you can get most bmd's and some parish registers on it. FMP has free irish parish registers, and better transcripts than ancestry, which you need a sub for anyway.
