I've been trying to track down four children in a 1870 Meall family group baptism. No dates of birth were given and in the bp register they were recorded as the children of Lucien and Elizabeth; one daughter was recorded as Elizabeth Emma. I had no luck at all, but then found a marriage for Eliza Mary Henrietta Meall, daughter of Henri Lucien, his actual birth forenames.
I've now found the family in census - in 1861 their daughter was Eliza M, in 1881 she was Eliza M H . So the initials M H morphed into Emma when the vicar recorded the baptisms and he bigged up Eliza into Elizabeth. And I'd thought it was only the surname Meall that was giving me problems
