  • Unexpected Mother's Maiden Name on GRO

Samuel Charles Roger de Coverly married Emma Holmes in 1861
Is this your ancestor? Explore genealogy for Samuel Coverly born bef. 1838 Mile End, London, England died 1910 Essex, United Kingdom including ancestors + descendants + more in the free family tree community.

Keeping in mind that Coverly may have alternate spellings (Coverly, Coverley, Caverly, Caverley) and sometimes this family use "de" in front of their surname, here are births that I think are theirs

    But.
In one of the censuses, daughter Elizabeth appears. This is the only registration that seems to match her
    DE COVERLY, ELIZABETH EMMA
    MARSHALL

Everything except MMN would make me think this birth belongs to this family...thoughts? I couldn't find a Coverly/Marshall marriage.

Have you got any further back in your tree. Just wondered if Emma's Mother was Marshall and she registered the birth and got mixed up.

I've had them when they have been married twice to use maiden name and first married name!!

Thanks, I was wondering if it was a transcription error, but your idea makes sense, too.

If you look at it, the couple is married in 1861, but the first child I know about is 1868, then they produce a bunch more.
