I wasn't certain this would have been the same man (vs. a nephew, son or cousin), but the address on the probate is in the same area as the 1911 address.

I'm looking for military records - does anyone have access to anything? I don't have any subs these days, familysearch doesn't seem to have anything.

The link from FS goes to the list of soldiers who died 1914-1921.

I have however found on FMP details of Harry's previous military record - he joined to Pay corps in Dec 1914 but was discharged from them on 30 Mar 1915 "having been found unfit for the duties of the A.P.C." His military character was " and he was "Good" and he was " steady and attentive in his work. Fair clerk". he was discharged in Exeter.

His personal details include his family, which match those on the Wikitree.

If you want more details let me know. I will see if I can see anything more on him.

Ancestry has his pension ledger from his death, but it is on Fold3 so I can't see it.

Just knowing that it confirms the person on WT is useful. I wasn't sure that a 40+ man with a family would be the private that died in WWI. Does anyone know - would he have been called up/drafted?

When he joined the Pay Corps in 1914 he said that he was 34. so knocked a few years off his age. He may have done the same thing the 2nd time he joined up.


Conscription was changed in May 1916 to cover married men up to the age of 41, so he may well have been called up.

The Pension card (Fold3) for Henry Coverley, No. R/11550, 18th Kings Royal Rifle Corps confirms his DoD as 15 Sep 1916 and lists the three boys (per the wikitree).

Details for Widow have been crossed out and replaced with the words "Guardian Mrs G S Coverley widow died 27. 3.17" Underneath that is the address 51 Clarendon Road, Lewisham.

Next to the children's names is written: "widow died 27.3.17, Authorised P. T pay pension at motherless rate of 19/- a week to F. D. Holloway Esq., Mr Fegans Homes, 62-64 Horseferry Rd, Westminster in respect of the three children.

The pension was awarded on 2 Jun 1917 from 7 May 1917, and expired when the children reached the aged of 16.

teasie Yes, that confirms this is my man. Rose A Coverly died 1st qtr 1917. The couple is listed with three children in the 1911 census.

It's just a bit odd that it refers to him as Henry - every other record I have is Harry.
