  • Arthur Deverill - stuck already ...

trying to find his birth / parents / census records!

He married Alice Purse in 1904 (there is also a Arthur C Deverill who marries in 1903 to a Selina Harries but I can trace them on - pretty sure he's not my Arthur) and they had Kenneth Deverill in 1907 in the Portsnmouth / Southsea area.

I can only find a marriage for them and nothing else seems to show up for Arthur on Ancestry. He is not on the 1911 with his wife and son.

I think Alice dies in 1980, I thought I had her on the 1939 but I'm not sure as the DOB on the probate I found doesn't match although same year - 1879?

Can anyone find his birth or find him on the 1911? I'm just going to scroll through FreeBMD and the GRO.

    Thank you in advance

What did Arthur do? Did he have a naval connection?

I don't know anything about him Janet! He is a branch from my tree that I thought I'd start to investigate (he would have been my Aunty's husbands g. grandfather) as I had nothing to do for a couple of hours

Only Alice and Kenneth at home when 1921 census was taken. Portsmouth again, which is why I wondered if there could have been a navy connection. Had hoped census return might shed some light and say "husband away at sea" or words to that effect. No such luck!

Yes I wondered where he was on the 1911 but no luck there either! Thanks for checking the 1921! Hmm, will have to do some more digging!

Arthur, Alice and Kenneth all in Lewisham in 1931 on reg of electors, and there is an Alice Deverill death in 1949, in Lewisham so thinking maybe a connection to the area. Arthur returns to Gosport after her death. Or maybe were there temporarily with Kenneth when she died

I am guessing you know all about Kenneth, Marjorie and Keith. There are a lot of reg of electors on ancestry if you have not seen them.

                          I didn't find him in 1921

                          1939 in Lewisham

they live at 28 Burlington Road in Gosport for many years around 1921, he is in reg of electors and directories, and that is where Alice and Kenneth are in 1921, Arthur must have been away for the night. the address is mistranscribed on 1921 census as Farlington road. all these records are on FMP.

I don't remember seeing the Hampshire Reg of electors are they new
