  • Univseity in the 1880's help

    Hi,
I have come across a record of a distant ancestor linked to the university Alumni. It mentions his death and his father etc. Now the rest of the document makes no sense to me (part of it still has internet coding in it so hasn't been added online correctly). Anyway it reads "Cambridge university almuni. Trinity Hall, entered Michs. 1881. Adm at trinity hall 1881, son of....." what does the Michs mean? where can i find more information? thanks

his birth year should be 1862 not 1873 (there is no birth for man of this name in 1873)

Here’s the unencoded version from https://venn.lib.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/s...ll&maxcount=50 where it clearly gives his DOB as 1862. Matric. Michs. 1881 Means he matriculated in the Michaelmas term of 1881 ie the Oct-Dec term.

    Booth, Charles Lancelot.
    Adm. at TRINITY HALL, 1881.
    S. of [Samuel Barker] Esq., deceased, of Gray's Inn, London. [B. June 11, 1862.] School, Marlborough.
    Matric. Michs. 1881.
Died Nov. 10, 1926, at 3, Pennard Mansions, Goldhawk Road, London, W. Brother of Samuel B. (1873)

Here’s the entry for his brother Samuel:
    Booth, Samuel Barker.
Adm. pens. at TRINITY, Feb. 18, 1873.
    S. of Samuel Barker, of Bickley Park, Kent [solicitor, of Gray's Inn Square]. B. May 23, 1855, in London.
    School, Marlborough.
    Matric. Michs. 1873; LL.B. 1877.
    Solicitor, 1880.
Died May 23, 1905, at Bournemouth.
    Brother of Charles L. (1881).
