  • James Farley b.1805 can't see a bapt?

    Hi all,

I've been trying to find a baptism for James Farley b.1805 in Burwash, Kent. I *think* he marries Hannah Blackford and their daughter is Eliza b.1827 @ Burwash, I'm trying to find siblings to Eliza and also nudge back a bit and find James' parents.

can anyone help please? thank you.

Sorry about this misinformation earlier. I have now edited the post and put it right.

Julie, should that be Burwash in Sussex, rather than Kent?
Have had a quick look at a couple of Ancestry trees, and they have Eliza Farley born Burwash Sussex c1827/1828 as daughter James Farley born c 1805 . Did you mean Eliza was a sibling of James, or daughter?

Several of the Ancestry trees have James born c 1805 at HAWKHURST Kent. Is that the place where you want us to look for a bp rather than Burwash?
(If you have your details on your tree but can't access it, I know all too well from personal experience that, sometimes, working from memory, one can attribute a wrong bit of info to someone )

um, it might be.. sorry heads a shed! where on earth have I got KENT from? I edited my first post.. Eliza should be a daughter of James Farley and Hannah Blackford. b.1827 I'm hoping that there is a SON John William born 1836 ish in Burwash to the same couple, I think Hannah dies in 1841.

        thank you Jay.

If you could try Hawkshurst too that would be great. Pretty sure that James marries Rhoda Budd in 1855, but I'm not having much luck in locating records.

Here is a record for the brother of Eliza -

            John William Farley
            Christening Date: 17 Apr 1836
            Christening Place: Burwash, Sussex, England
            Father: James Farley
            Mother: Hannah Farley

It is a transcription - there seems to be no online image. The images are available at the Sussex record office and at a family history centre
Do you need the transcriptions for any other children?
I saw the 1851 census image on one of the trees on Ancestry - in 1851 father James Farley was a widower.

I have a few things to do shortly, but post up what else you need to know about this family and I will pop in again before my bedtime. As you can't access your tree, it may be that you need quite a bit of info to assist you to pick up the bare bones of the family again !

Have found Hannahs death in 1841, and he remarries in 1855, what I don't know if any children were born to that marriage. James dies in 1883 I think. sorry that there are a lot of 'I thinks'.

The BT's for Burwash are here, starting 1805: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61...68BS-D1B?i=608

I couldn't see any entry for James Farley ,looked as far as 1809. There is an entry in 1805 for a Sarah Ann, daughter of John Farley Price and Nancy. John and Nancy Eastwood married in Burwash in 1803.

Will see if I can see anything else.

I can find 2 James Farley born in the area around the right time

!. Baptised in Hawkhurst 7/4/1797, son of Thomas and Martha

                                      2. Baptised in Cranbrook 11/4/1803, son of William and Kezia. Cranbrook is about 4 miles away from Hawkhurst.

Oh- just found a burial for James Farley in 1876 in Cranbrook, born 1804, which matches number 2. So number 1 could be your man.

Ah - found James' marriage in 1855 - he says his father is George. However he is a Patten maker so that fits with your clog maker.
