  • Laurie Petts no 3 bombers 42 air school Port Elizabeth

I knew my Mum had this photo album years ago, but she never really mentioned it. She did tell me she was engaged during the war and that he was missing.

So coincidentally my cousin was messaging me last night saying did I know about him, and today I have been clearing out Mums clothes and there was the album.

Can take better photos, but can't decide what his name was. Laurie Pera?

Been googling around and they were sent to SA for Training.

Mum was in Finchley by this time, so assume he was from the area. Be interesting if I could find any info on him.

been one of those days, have Dads navy records and receipts of various funerals etc, also her Pru book, all things recently talked about, will look properly when I get home....along with Mums swimming certs!

I've looked for airforce deaths on the CWGC under Laurie, Laurence and Lawrence but haven't found any possibles so it looks like he survived the war.

Interesting, guess I will never know. Not the sort of thing I would ask dad!

cbcarolyn yes, it wouldn't be appropriate to ask your dad. My granny kept photos and letters home from my mum where she was gushing about her male Belgian penfriend when she was a teenager, they came to me via my aunt and I was able to find out about him.

              Looking on FMP civil births:
How about Laurie Perez born Whitechapel 1899 (maybe too old?)
Or Lawrence James Pare born Sheppey 1906
              Anne

Edit to say, looking at the photo he looks too young for either of these.
Interesting that the surnames Pare and Pers do exist though!

Mum was born 1925, I reckon similar age.

Thinking she must have met him in Holloway, they were bombed out in Oct 40 and went to Finchley.

                Definitely an odd surname.

The last letter isn't an S unless there's something before it too. I'm wondering if anyone but me can see the enhanced version I posted?

Yes, I can see it and all Carolyn's pictures. Looking at all the other letters in the other names I think it most looks like Pare.

There's a Laurence Pare born in 1920 on the 1921 census in Leigh, Lancashire. Can't find his birth reg. though so its probably a mis transcription.

Once I get home I will have another search around, you would think a name like that would be easy enough to find.

perhaps I can find parents on reg of electors in London. Leigh is a long way from London!

Juggling with the 1921 search there are 2 other people at his address in Tyldesley with Shakerly: Annie Pare b1899 and John Hilton Pare b 1897

does that fit for him to be training as a pilot and living in Holloway or Finchley in 1940/41. I will scrutinise the rest of the photos tomorrow, and see if there are any more clues. I like a good mystery.
