  • William Locke's will

William lived and died in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. (1796-1873). His middle name was Speed.

In 1853 commercial directory and 1861census he's listed as a brick and tile manufacturer and coal merchant.
    In 1871 he's a farmer with 105 acres.
    He died in 1873.

Can anyone please find his will?

ps: his surname has been transcribed incorrectly on a few occasions e.g. lacke, lockle

The wills are indexed alphabetically for each year, so you can search through manually. It maybe there was no will, I am still mystified sometimes, why there are some for tiny amount!

I am not sure what happens if the will gets contested, whether the indexing is a bit off, one of my farmers had his will contested, but after probate - was in the papers too. And he only left £182 so assume although he was a farmer he didn't own it.

See this thread where we chatted about why not always a will:

I am sure I can google these answers - but been pondering on these questions! If someone dies without a will there is often (but not always) an entry on probate: "Administration", why is there not an entry for pretty much every death is it based on above a certain value? I feel that most people would have something
