Hi,

I wondered if anyone could offer insight as to what exactly the following phrase means on my great-grandfathers Royal Marines service record, written in the .space below postings.

"Fraudulently enlisted in the Rifle Brigade as No 6372 Pte
R Moyle

D.A.G No 1776/99 25 Mch 1899"

And where I could look for further info?

Thanks for the help everyone, I took a look at the record on fold3, seems to be likely to be the same person age, place of birth, complexion, hair colour all line up (seems to have grown 2 inches in his time in the marines). So in short I guess it means he was dishonorably discharged from the royal marines, tried to enlist in the army under a pseudonym but was found out? Probably explains his absence from the 1901 census!
