Bannister orphans in 1891

I can't find James Bannister born 25 Mar 1874 in Burnley or his sister Mary Ann Bannister born 10 May 1878 in the 1891 census, they were orphaned while living in Nelson, Lancashire in 1888 when their father died.

In 1891 their other siblings were with an uncle (Samuel), a cousin adopted another (Robert) and the third (Willie) was adopted by an unrelated couple, all three kept their surname. and two were in Nelson the third in near by Barrowford.

I keep revisiting 1891 without luck, can anyone else spot them please?

Going by birth year +/-2 and birth place, I only got 1 result for a James. Mary Ann is not in the same household. Could he have been adopted by an Uncle? Address 14 Earl Street, Burnley. This James is not showing up at the bottom of the page as being in other censuses.

Not coming up with anything on the same site for Mary Ann. There were 2 results.
Mary born Burnley 1876 and Minnie A. born 1879 Burnley but both have entries at the bottom of their pages showing other censuses. They were both with the same parents in 1881 so not the right ones.

No luck on ancestry with trees or his marriage. There’s 20 public trees and not a single one has him on 1881 census nor a copy of his marriage certificate. ukbmd has his marriage in 1896 to Sarah Jane Taylor Stoddart but it’s Burnley Register Office or Registrar Attended which is a pest as I was hoping to get an address for 1896 as he’s not likely to have been far away in 1891.

GL, The James W you have on 1891 is living with the same parents, John and Susannah in 1881 so don't think it is correct.

Jill, can you give us the names of his parents so we can find them on earlier census please.

Have tried everything I can think of on ancestry for 1891 census and zilch. I’m stumped

Thankyou everyone I have looked at and eliminated most of the possibilities. As they are both missing i wonder if they might have been together somewhere.

Burnley for James and Trawden for Mary Ann, I have them on all later censuses and the 1939 register and have memorabilia of Mary's from her days as a missionary in Africa. My dad used to visit James & his wife on his way home from school.

I just wanted to find them in 1891 for completeness, we've had an unexpected visitor (toddler granddaughter, not allowed to go to her older sister's nativity due to the school withdrawing all tickets other than for parents as a covid precaution) but will look at everyone's suggestions later this evening once we've eaten.

Ooh! That looks good as James’s mother’s ms was Nutter according to GRO online index.

FMP also has him as Sannister. Have looked at both images and tbh, it does look like an S. If it is meant to be a B, the top part of the letter is very small compared to the bottom part.

I think that leaves only Mary Ann to find now.
