Isn't it one of those references to some sort of alteration? I think they are numbered and kept in an appendix book. In this case the word may have been deemed not to have been written clearly. Antony M will tell us.

Doesn't look like a correction. If it is a GRO issued certificate I suspect it is a note made for statistical purposes within GRO - you sometimes see similar numbers written alongside occupations.
