Samuel Fear birth reg

I've tried and failed to find a birth reg/baptism. He was born 12 Jul 1868 according to the 1939 register, in 1871 he was with his grandmother Jane Fear in West Buckland, Somerset which is his birthplace on all successive censuses. I suspect he was illegitimate, don't have the funds to buy his marriage cert (1892, in Worcs).

Can anyone else find his birth?

Looked on FMP and it doesn't come up with anything. It only brings up a Samuel Farr, but so far away from West Buckland doesn't look likely.

It does bring up a Samuel Fear on census in North Petherton Somerset, again this is no help, as can't see his birth either!

I assume that you know the West Buckland baptisms are on Ancestry and no Samuels are on there for around that time that fit the bill.

cbcarolyn yes, there are other family members but he is missing from West Buckland bapts too, thank you for taking the time to look, I thought I was missing something obvious but he has slipped under the radar.

If he was illegitimate, could he have been born elsewhere and baptised there, say if his mother was a servant?

any common transcription errors that you have come across? Fear seems unusual I did try *ear and also tear!

Yes I tried those, T & F often get mistaken for each other. Also searched by first name only and two years either side of his 1939 birthdate. At least knowing his grandmother's name has given her name, and I know who her parents and her husband were.

Thanks I'd seen that but eliminated it, as he emigrated to the USA. The one I'm looking for died here in 1943.

Just parking this. Have been looking at a Jane Fear. She marries in Bristol 1870 to a Samuel Avons (sometimes Evans). Doesn't have Samuel with her in 1871 but in 1881 names a child Samuel.
