  • Christiana Ward c1806

Hoping I am onto a Ward family member at last after finding a will which I am about to order but need to try and find this lady 1841 and 1851.

Christiana Ward died 22 May 1879 age 73 Spinster in Welbourne, Lincs, probate to Reuben and Henry Wand both of Newark, Notts; Reuben Wand married Mary Ward 1832 and I know all the family connections and history as Mary's father was Jonas Ward.

    I have Christiana

    1861 North Collingham

1871 Wellbourne and here she is born in Ossett

Jonas was a fishmonger from 1817 in Newark (previously a horsekeeper) as was another Ward in Newark, Thomas Ward, fishmonger born Ossett; Jonas died before the 1841 census and had already moved to Leicester whilst Thomas is in Newark and Thomas's daughter Rebecca is with Reuben and Mary in Newark. Jonas c1787, Thomas c1796 and Christiana c1806 might be siblings and trees have them as children of Isaac and Rebecca, children baptised in Ossett, so hoping finding Christiana in the earlier returns will throw up something as I have most of the other possible siblings on a separate tree and they are clothiers/weavers; Thomas by 1851 is in Leeds and still a fishmonger.

Children of Isaac and Rebecca...Non-conformist ones! Still not got to grips with the new search!

    Thanks everyone

    Elaine

Baptism Ossett but born Horbury - not that that's actually helping to find her on census at the moment!

interesting probate says formerly of Wellingore but now Welbourne, the 1871 census had her in Welbourn, so Wellingore bef 1871 and after 1861, but significant to mention. Not sure what that means, just off out now for jab, will have a look later, but guessing I will not find anything. have you searched newspapers for her?

Can't find anything else at the mo for her Carolyn, will ordered and 29th Nov is the estimated date to arrive.

Had a nice trip out to Welbourne yesterday as the headstones were listed for St. Chads and Christiana's was one of them.

              So far!

Jonas moves his family to Leicester c1833 and they remain there 1841 and 1851, Jonas dies 1837 and his wife Ann dies 1842 . Son James is the only one who moves after 1851 and goes back to Newark for 1861 and by 1871 is in Scarborough , the only sibling I can't find is Charles Henry after 1851.

In Newark, Reuben Wand is still with Mary and she dies 1858, her sister Ann lives with the family and stays in Newark till she dies in 1903.

Looking at the Ossett Wards, have mapped out the siblings as best I can so glad of any help.

Anthony marries Mary Wilson in Bridlington 1807 and 1841 and 1851 he is in Leeds. Have used the cemetery records online, no parents listed and he dies 1853. He was a soldier and then a cloth weaver.
              Hannah dies age 9mths
              James c1788 ?
Joseph c1790 ? there is a Joseph Ward witness to Isaiah's second marriage
              Benjamin c1792 ?
Lucy/Lewse marries John laycock and stays in Ossett
Thomas marries Mary Holmes 1825 in Newark, 1841 in Newark then Leeds 1851 and he dies 1862

              https://explore.library.leeds.ac.uk/...resultOffset=9

Isaac may have married Maria Whitehead and is in Dewsbury, am really not sure about this Isaac
              Mary c 1801 ?
Isaiah I think married Hannah Dews 1825 then Mary Farrah 1826, he is a cordwainer
There is another Christiana Ward from Ossett same time frame, she marries a Mr. Brierley, her parents are as Isaac and Rebecca on trees and she dies in Marylebone 1885, hoping the will helps me out here!

I have absolutely no idea about Isaac snr but there is a Rebecca Ward age 47 buried 1811 in Ossett

              thanks for looking

you might get the will after two or three days, they have been very quick with deliveries of late.

I have looked also but not spotting anything likely.

I am not quite following, are all the names you mentioned just could be Christiana's siblings? or you do you know Jonas and Mary definitely are.

My Jonas Ward is thought to be the son of Rebecca and Isaac from Ossett on some trees but I don't have any proof of where he was from or his parents. In the family grouping for Ossett is a Christiana and Thomas. Am trying to establish whether the Chrisitiana Ward from the will and Thomas who is in Newark 1841 (born Ossett 1851 census), are related and if my Jonas may or not be a brother. The will is key to me as Reuben WAND is an executor and Reuben married Jonas's daughter Mary plus Thomas's daughter Rebecca is with my Wand's 1841 in Newark.
