Marriage OPR help needed with wording

    Charles Aitken-Ann Herriot 1789.png
hi I need some help please.. I have found a marriage for my ancestors and I need help in deciphering some of the wording used. Its the part after Ann Herriot's name and before the word "and" I have no idea what this means to be honest. What would an irregular marriage be?
    Thank you

    Raven.

I looked up the word as it seemed to read... they compeared before the session...
Compear is to appear in court, in person or by counsel, would this sound right?

Is this a Scottish case? Most dictionaries show it as a Scottish archaic legal term.
