  • Help with Richard Nayno inventory

    I'm working on my 9x great grandfather Richard Nayno's inventory and am stuck on some words, I'd be grateful for your opinions:



    Item Eight loads of hay & ???? 07 = 04 = 00
    Item two loads and halfe of threshed wheat 12 = 00 = 00
    Item foure bushells of rye 00 = 05 = 00
    Item ninety & eight Shepe and lambs 20 = 03 = 00
    Item five ????? beastes 12 = 00 = 00

    (there are some more to follow)

    Item aleaven Hogges & pigges 02 = 17 = 00
    Item two waggons two Dung ??? 09 = 00 = 00

    Item plowes & harroes Cart & ha??? 01 = 15 = 00

            Yes, thank you - I think clover would be right, and I had "horse beasts" originally but doubted myself. It's a diabolical image, the previous page has all the stuff from the house and is really clear but the farm assets are more challenging.

                Found it - first one is Ruther beastes - another word for cows.

                On second thoughts it seems to be animals who give milk, so could include goats

                    Rother and its variants : Middle English word for a cow, ox or bull , the river Rother runs near Easebourne too.
