  • 1861 census help please

In another attempt to trace my Great Grandmother i have come across this potential record in 1871 for Maria Rowley. born 1863. She is around the right age; but described as an orphan.

    https://www.ancestry.co.uk/discovery.../27817979:7619

In the same household there is a 20 year old servant Amelia Rowley. As the surnames are the same I wondered if she might be a relative and give me a clue as to how to find out more about Maria. This is where I'm having a problem - I can't find any earlier trace of Amelia . Both Maria and Amelia have had their place if birth transcriled as Prelsfield Staffordshire which is suspect might actually be Priestfield but I really don't the are tht well

I wonder if some kind soul would have a look for me please and see if they can find Amelia in 1861?

    Thanks in advance

I don't know the area at all, any experts that can pinpoint the area better? have you looked at people and dismissed them?

Thank you GL that looks interesting.

cbcarolyn I hadn't eliminated anyone, mainly because the nearest match I found was born 1858

I think so Carolyn, or possibly Bilston

I'm only assuming Priestfield as it was the nearest match I could find to "Prelsfield"

My elusive ancestor consistently claimed she was from Wolverhampton during her married life living in Newcastle-upon-Tyne

                                      Thanks all

I don't have anything else in the family bible for her unfortunately

I have a few potential birth certificates, including the one Vera found,. None have William as father.

Thanks for all the help everybody. This is a brick wall I keep coming back to.
