  • Mother's Maiden Name problem

I don't know if anyone can help but, on the 1901 Census I have Ethelbert J Bartlett with his wife Emma J Bartlett, according to FreeBMD Ethelbert married a Emma J Hill in 1900 she was 23. In 1911 Ethelbert and Emma have three children, Maurice 1902, Harold (actually Alfred Harold) 1905 and Hazel 1908, however when I went to check them on the GRO Index their mother's maiden name is given as 'Hodge' not 'Hill' as I expected. I can't find another marriage for either Ethelbert or Emma, I did find three birth records for a Emma Jane Hill for Q2 1877 two in Bridgwater and one in Taunton any of which could be the right one given her birthplace of Bickenhall.

If anyone can give me any clues as to why the change of name I would be grateful.

Thank you all. Where did that information come from, the sites that I looked at never mentioned 'Hodge'.
