I've always relied on free bmd for the preliminary looking for someone. BUT it does not have mmn for the period I'm looking. Can someone point me to what the website is that has mmn before 1912 please? I'm hoping it is a free site.

You should be able to use the library version of ancestry from home.Comment

The 'death' side of the GRO site gives the age at death which I have found very useful for those births which just appear on one Census or the ones that I have found that were born and died between the Census years also of course for those deaths which happened before the age was recorded on FreeBMD or the paid for sites.MargaretComment
