  • Baptism before Registration

Henry Wynn was Baptised in November 1893 in Woolwich. However his birth was not registered until the first quarter of 1894.
Has anyone else found it happening this way round
    Regards

Yes, quite often. It confuses my Family Historian program no end.

Perhaps when he was born they thought he may not survive and wanted him baptised just in case?

OH's gf was baptised Aug 1875 in Donegal before he was 'born' Nov 1875. His aunt registered his birth and that of a cousin at the same time. We think she may have invented a later birth date to avoid being fined for late registration. Explained why OH could not remember any Nov birthdays in his family. I've never bothered to apply for his birth cert as it was only give me a false d.o.b

Most of mine are like that! I have lots of births/baptisms occurring in Nov/Dec of one year but not registered until the 1st qtr of the next year.
