So, 1842 is most likely to be s/o William Westwick and Elizabeth Ellis

Not immediately finding marriages for the other two.

Ballans is likely to be where James B Westwick got his middle name, Balance?

OK, it's one of those teasing things, and gotta let it go, but

Wow. Herbert is born 4th qtr 1850 in England, James marries in St Louis in Oct 1850. He has his son from his first marriage with him in the 1850 census - presumably young George died before then?

It also means his brother and his SIL were complicit in the bigamy? They had to have known about Eliza Scott. James lived for quite a while in Galena and was in business with his brother.

If it's all true - Wow.

This is why i was hoping the marriage in missouri would have some info, like place of origin or wittnesses.

Found a ref to the brothers 1850 which adds to dates, have also found John returned home

Galena Daily Gazette 11 September 1876

Mr John Westwick returned from England on Saturday, after an absence of several months among the haunts of his childhood

From a Wyoming newspaper article 1886 about James Westwick from England, using John Westwick's firm from Galena for irrigation, I did save the page and marked it but it was too big, hope the snip is ok as I had already highlighted a couple of areas.

The Lusk Converse County Herald 02 November 1899, just says he died on the ranch, no mention of relatives

Thank you elaine. I think it is likely these two brother's are the right ones. Just the potential bigamy and knowing american records are patchy depending on area had me wondering.
