  • Help most appreciated. Thomas Family tree

    Hello all,

Im hoping one of our members may be able to cast a fresh set of eyes over my mother’s Thomas Family Tree, located in Ancestry. Here’s the link. https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree...id=12235117420

Im struggling to fathom out My GG x 3 Richard Stanton DOB 1824-1860 POB Wednesbury. It reads to me that possibly Richard faked his own death on March 1860, but then took a boat from Liverpool to New York USA. Could you shed any light on what his story was?

Im also keen to verify who Richards mother was as I have possibly tripped up here and found a link going to the Wedgewood family then onto the De Veres this is through Richards mother Ann but I’m aware I have used her married name as her maiden name trace. Could this possible line going to the Wedewoods also be linked to Richards father William

Two days I have been engrossed and I need to get some work done lol!
Many thanks for spending your time time on this.

    Most appreciated,
    Kate Stanley

Welcome to the forum Kate. Looking at the death registration on the GRO site for Richard the age at death is 0, so it is a baby with the same name. It looks like he left, but no fakery going on, you can create a free account to search deaths and it gives the age, (and for births you can see the mother's maiden name).

        Welcome to ftf!

If you buy the marriage cert for Joseph and Mary Thomas, you will get the names of their fathers, and fathers' occupations, and witnesses.

If you haven't identified the actual marriage event, then the birth cert for John Thomas (1843) will given father's occupation and mother's maiden name.

My Thomases were from Cornwall, not Wales

Just to add, don’t buy your certificates via Ancestry. They charge far too much for them. The best place to order them from is the GRO website where you can get a pdf version sent by email for £7.
Main research interests.. CAESAR (Surrey and London), GOODALL (London), SKITTERALL, WOODWARD (Middlesex and London), BARBER (Canterbury, Kent), DRAYSON (Canterbury, Kent), CRISP (Kent) and CHEESEMAN (Kent).

hi and welcome to the forum. Do you know that all the children have the same parents? If so then you can use the GRO to confirm the maiden name of any born after 1837 as Jill suggested

            some info here also:

I would look for more census records of the parents William and Mary, ensuring that you have all family members and the POB. Did a really quick search and thought this might be your family:

but you have father death in 1848 so maybe on the wrong track.

Don't know if you have used freereg

Search your ancestry with FreeREG. FreeREG provides free online access to transcriptions of birth, marriage and burial records from Church of England and Church of Scotland registers. You can also use FreeREG to discover: non-Conformist records from England, Scotland and Wales, Municipal Cemetary records, Memorial records and documents relating to life events out of country, at sea and in the military.

these contain parish records that have been transcribed and there are some for Staffordshire.

Richards marriage is there, father William occ spur buckle maker

Have found Richard and Harriett's children being baptised up to but not including Reuben, but not sure how much has been transcribed.

'Febey' from 1841 I think is the lady buried Wednesbury...Phoebe Stanton age 88 16 Feb 1850 Wednesbury

***At the bottom of the search page for Freereg, there are some extra search options that are worth including too.
