  • Help with a surname

Would like some help with a surname on a marriage December 1862 and some deciphering of the note in the margin please.

Have William F Tann marrying Mary H...

Have records as Haitnelt/Hartnett/Hartnelt/Horton...but here it looks like she and her relative have signed Hartnat. In the margin, seems to be Hasnelt looking at the s he uses but could be Harnelt and I think the marriage was supposed to be the 11th but can't make out the comment for 12th.

Can anyone work out what it actualy says and if Julia Hanna is corected to Johanna in the margin please...

    12th ? 11th but ? to be 12th Ha*nelt

I read it as 'marked 11th but * to be 12th Harnett,' then signed. So amending the date and name. I'm not sure of the * word. The last letters could be 'ord, but the beginning does not look to be right for record.
Yes I think you could be right and there is a further amendment underneath to Johanna, underneath appears a feint signature similar to the one above.

FWIW those signatures in the list on the image are all copied by one hand. It follows it is probably not the person with the name so could easily be wrong even though it is written so confidently.

Seems to be "marked 11th but deemed to be (unsure of date) Harnett"

The name is definitely "harnett". But spelled interestingly on the record.

Was just thinking of the chef Angela but she is a Hartnett as is the actor Josh Hartnett.

However this indicates a possible Irish origin for Harnett.

Read the Harnett surname history and see the family crest, coat of arms for the Irish Origin. Discover the Harnett surname history. Where did the name Harnett come from?

For some reason since my last computer update I cannot copy and paste, so you may need to key in the link.

Enlarging it there two tall letters the same. I think it reads Hartnat.

The marriage was as Thain and Horton would you believe, haven't found a death for Mary which is post 1900 and William was as Taun when he died. The surnames around this family have so many mis-transriptions and I really appreciate everyone's input on this.
