  • US military records for WW2

Hi, is there anywhere I can search for US military records? Had a gander on Ancestry but nothing obvious popped up! Also had a Google and there are US.gov but as I'm in England and not a direct relative I wonder if I could get the information?
    Thanks (again)

Service records mostly went up in smoke, and the surviving records are not online.

Ancestry has military headstone applications - not sure they go up to WWII, tho.

Ancestry has draft registration records for WWII - but if your man enlisted, then he didn't have a draft record. There are some enlistment records, also on Ancestry, but they are very sparse on info (like, name, place of enlistment, maybe age?).

familysearch's wiki on US WWII military records:
      https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en...,_1941_to_1945

and they have a pamphlet on the subject.
