Brickwall / conundrum

Hello,
I have a bit of a conundrum. Rosetta Massey b. 1895, Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire married Jack Wilkins b. 1900, Caxton/Arrington, Cambridgeshire. On the 1939 register they have 2 sons - Malcolm H Wilkins b. 1920 and Maurice B Wilkins b. 1924, however Malcolms surname is crossed out and replaced with Robinson and I can't find a birth for him. Are Rosetta and Jack not his birth parent's?
If anyone can throw some thoughts at me to look at/chase I would be greatful!

Do you know that the couple definitely had a son named Malcolm, as no relationships are given on the register? The name error seems to have initially been amended at the time, so could they perhaps have had a lodger or some other family member living with them? The members of the next household are also named Wilkins, so it is possible that the compiler put in the wrong name and then corrected the entry.

to me the fact that it has been crossed out by the same handwriting as the rest of the page, it does seem like an error. and that his name was not Wilkins at the time - or certainly not his birth name. I am assuming you have no Robinsons in the tree?

edit - see my thinking same as Janets

Val's death record does look promising, although haven't located a birth for that name either
