Same marriage different name?

I'm now wondering what the maiden name of my direct ancestor Elizabeth is now as the GRO cert and the marriage register from FMP match throughout with the exception of her surname. For some reason I can't add them as attachments so links to the images on my flickr site.

I would say that was a case of mis-reading on one of them. What was the vicar doing using such an out of date form instead of the proper cert? Did they register the births of children? You could see what the name really was on the GRO index. Or it might be another version ha ha!

Kids are in the mmn of Boag but that register looks odd, the couples signatures (if that is indeed they are), look very alike to the way their names are written at the start of each entry. It looks the same in each entry on the page within the register

I would say that non of the signatures on either certificate are those of the individuals. They are both copies written by different people. The black and white one is a very out of date parish record entry which should have been discontinued in 1837!

I reckon the curate was catching up probably much later with filling in the register. Mistakes are always made, it’s the way of life.

Thanks, I've found a couple of kids I never knew about in the birth index so far. Irvin entries are ten a penny in that area and I've had little luck with them in years gone by, I think I know what the next day or two hold for me now

That second image is of the Bishop's Transcripts which were copied annually from the parish registers. That's why it's all in the same hand and more than likely the the reason for the name error.

The curate of Tynemouth was very unusual in completing BT's for post 1837 marriages as most other parishes only completed baptism and burials after civil registration.
