      Sorry, I didn't answer your Q in post 17:

      how do you do that?
      Well, if you have access to FindMyPast it's easy as they have an address search.

      I don't, so I looked up the address on there anyway, which told me the civil parish name along with the ecclesiastical parish name, municipal ward etc etc. I then went to Ancestry and looked at the 25 (or so) enumeration districts for Moss Side, looking forst for those in the right ecclesiastical parish and for those that were the right parish, for the street name. Once I found the street I trawled through the pages looking for the street and number.

      Sometimes Historical Directories is a good site to help the search, if you can findsomeone living in the street at the right time and look them up on the census, but on this occasion that method wasn't very helpful!
