The country as a whole is one of contrast, from the cosmopolitan resorts in the south to the relative unspoiled and often undeveloped parts of the countryside comprising small town and villages where the pace and style of living has remained unchanged for many years.

    The region of South East Asia is the area geographically north of Australia, south of China, east of India and west of New Guinea. It covers an area of approximately 5,000,000 sq.km with a total population in excess of 590 million.

    The region comprises of 11 countries, namely Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and two territories, Christmas Island and Cocos Islands.

    Capitals: Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei), Naypyidaw (Burma), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Dili (East Timor), Jakarta (Indonesia), Vientiane (Laos), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Manila (Phillipines), Singapore (Singapore), Bangkok (Thailand) and Hanoi (Vietnam).
