  • Flickering parts of screen

Recently I have been having an annoyance with the computer screen flickering. Its a flat screen for a desktop computer.

In particular when I use MS Word the parts at the top with the drop-down menus for font type and size and also the zoom drop-down, flicker and jiggle about all the time. The rest of the page is fine. Anyone got any ideas???

It could be a loose power supply cable.

Have checked the cables and all are secure. Thanks for the thought.

Also tried temporarily turning off McAfee but it wasn't that.

If you're experiencing a flickering display while using your monitor, try these troubleshooting steps to fix the problem.

have a look at this Anne

Thanks for that Val. I had a look through it but it doesn't quite cover my problem. I didn't describe it very well in the thread heading :(.

I realise now it seems to ONLY be a problem in MS Word, where the drop down menus for the font type and size etc flicker and when the mouse pointer approaches them that flickers too. The rest of the display is fine. It doesn't even do it in Excel, where there are similar menus. I'm mystified!

Could be your graphics card driver needs updating.

wouldn't the problem be on other programs too if it were the driver though?? as I understand it, it is ONLY happening when Anne is using MS Word. So, if it were a driver issue wouldn't this be on everything that is on her puter?

Anne, is MS Word something that you have purchased and installed on your own puter? have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling MS word

No, Julie, the computer is quite an old desktop with Windows XP. I have done nothing to MS Office applications ever since it was new! It is only Word that does the flickering in those drop down menus at the top and it only started recently.

Its very annoying but doesn't really seem to be doing anything wrong so I'm ignoring it! :(
