  • Ancestry trees ... and Facebook!

Not sure if this is a new feature, or I haven't noticed before.
Was looking at my tree on Ancestry and viewing the profile page where I appear on the tree, next to my name is: f Is Elaine on Facebook?
Seems to be against all living people in the tree.

When you click on it you get a pop up box which says
More discoveries and more people to share with
Use Facebook to quickly add family members, photos, and birth dates to your tree
    Bodes well for accurate research!

Seems a bit daft to ask if LIVING is on Facebook:

    Is LIVING on Facebook?

Yes, I wonder how they match that one up.
I haven't pressed the "continue" button to see how it connects with FB - but rather worrying that you might be able to attach FB photos/data to an Ancestry tree! One would hope that the security settings on FB would prevent a non-friend from getting access.

Interestingly there was a comment on the Ancestry FB page yesterday evening from a guy who feels that this is in danger of breaching the UK Data Protection Act - not sure how - but he said he will follow it up with the DPA Registrar.

ancestry gives you hints for people in the census, when you have it clear as day your ancestor died in the 17th century!! so i would expect them to make a moronic mistake and assume someone born in 1880 with no death is on facebook!
