  • Both missing in 1841

Still looking for them ,Should say people have tried before with no luck

Can anybody spare some time to find my Great Great Grandfather and my future Great Great Grandmother in 1841 ?

John KNIGHT born 28 Aug 1817 Bermondsey a Cabinet Maker

marries 14 Jun 1841 in Lambeth to

Eliza COOPER Full age Father Thomas Cooper a Carpenter .

Dont know when or where she was born but she dies in 1848 in Bermondsey aged 29

Cannot find either of them either apart or together in 1841

The only Thomas Cooper a Carpenter I could find about the right age has a daughter Eliza a lot younger.

    Thanks

    Hi Val
Just looked at the marriage cert & the address for both of them was Peartree Street. Not sure if that was in Lambeth where they married.

I think it should be Pear Tree (two words) somewhere near the Waterloo Road.

        There's this one in Camberwell

John and Eliza Knight both age 20 - he's a milkman though

HO107; Piece: 1052; Book: 2; Civil Parish: St Giles Camberwell; County: Surrey; Enumeration District: 4; Folio: 14; Page: 20; Line: 14; GSU roll: 474651.

Presumably it is the same John Knight who turns up in 1851 as a Looking Glass Frame Maker (there's a specialist trade!) at 9 Bartholomew Square, Finsbury. (1521/399/59) married to Isabella.
John Knight seems to have married Isabella Marshall 1849 q1 Lambeth vol4 p50.
In 1851 there's a son Thomas born 1846 in Lambeth, presumably the fruit of the first marriage, and a 10-month old John, an early fruit of the second.

My 1963 street map does not have any Pear Tree or Peartree references anywhere near enough to be relevant but perhaps maudarby spotted

which shows Peartree cottages Camberwell and Peartree St, Waterloo Rd, Lambeth. The latter had 11 houses and was in St John's (C of E) parish, according to the Census.
In the 1851 Census, the pages for Pear Tree St and Pear Tree Court are between those for Lower Marsh and Providence Place; the former was still extant immediately to the SE of Waterloo Station in 1963, so perhaps Pear Tree St was nearby.

Doesn't really tell whether the milkman was the same man, but interesting nonetheless.

I noticed there is a family surnames Cooper with Sophia's living in Pages Walk Bermondsey in 1841 ,so is George Knight Johns Father,? wonder if they are connected to Eliza?could be she named the baby after her mother ?
