If you don't want to do Italian records there are plenty of others on offer!

I'm already doing it, although I don't actually have Italian ancestry, but there don't seem to be an awful lot of others.

I wouldn't attempt it if you don't speak Italian.

i don't know how detailed they expect it to be- i guess looking at their guides will tell you the info they want. i was considering doing the posen ones.

You download a program and type the information they want for each project into it.

For civil registration births, for example, it's normally the child's name, gender, date of birth and parents' names. It sounds easy, but often isn't; the handwriting can be hard to read, and in Italian records, in the case of foundlings and illegitimate children legitimised by a later marriage, you need to understand what the record says so you can fill in the parents' names correctly.

Oh, and you can't just decide you'd like to do a certain parish or a certain year; you have to choose from a list of what's available for transcribing.

I don't think Posen is listed - it'd presumably be shown as Poznan under Poland?

I would have been interested in doing certain parishes in Derbyshire, but you can only choose the county; the parish or year that comes up can be anything.

You can always return records that are not something that you want to do.

Transcription work is broken into sections. Some sections are fairly specific: there has been transcription of Chicago Catholic parish records, for instance (I backed out of that one - it wasn't complex, but it was in Latin). I've worked on Bristol & Essex parish records. The 1940 census allowed you to specify the state. Irish applotment records were different.

Even if you can't specify your ancestors' specific parish, working on records from the area that they lived will speed the release of the area's index.

I signed up (like others I guess) to transcribe something that particularly interested me - Essex Parish Registers - but despite them being on this very long list of projects for indexing - https://indexing.familysearch.org/pr...t_projects.jsf - they are not offered at the moment - so have ended up doing mostly US ones

This is the current list to choose from - with the "level" of transcriber they suggest does them shown at the end

i guess they are existing image sets, as the one i mentioned for poznan, was part of the province in poland, but i think some of brandenburg was in the collection. it was ont he list when i posted the thread, but i don't see it up there in the list.

No, I've just checked, and it's in the list that Elaine linked to, under Germany, but it's not in the list of available projects that comes up in my program.
